Award Details
These scholarships, valued at $16,000 ($4,000 in each year for four years of an undergraduate degree), are designed to recognize and encourage exceptional Canadian high school graduates who combine outstanding leadership potential with academic giftedness. A total of twelve awards will be given out to direct entry students entering the University of Manitoba in September 2027:
- Six of the awards will be given to students graduating from a high school within Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario (Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship)
- Three of the awards will be given out at the national level to students graduating from a Canadian high school found outside of Manitoba (National Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship)
- Three of the awards will be given to students graduating from a high school within Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario who have self-declared as First Nations, Métis or Inuit people from Canada (Indigenous Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship)
BMO Leader of Tomorrow Scholarships will be offered to students who:

have achieved a high school average of at least 90 percent calculated on the basis of final results (equivalent courses for Canadian students outside of Manitoba) in:
- English 30S (Grade 11) or Français 30S (Grade 11) and Anglais 30S (Grade 11)
- Mathematics 30S (Grade 11) (Pre-calculus or Applied)
- the highest marks in three of Biology 30S (Grade 11), Chemistry 30S (Grade 11), Physics 30S (Grade 11), History 30F (Grade 11), Geography 30S (Grade 11), Computer Science 30S (Grade 11), or a language at the 30S (Grade 11) level other than those accepted for (a) above;
- have demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities and future potential;
- have demonstrated evidence of a high level of communication skills;
- have a record of community involvement (e.g., school, local community, city-wide, regional, national, international);
- have demonstrated evidence of special abilities other than those shown by academic results (e.g., artistic, athletic, linguistic skills, literary accomplishments);
- have completed a University of Manitoba application for admission by December 1st, including payment of application fee.
Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by a selection committee in March 2027. Applicants must be available for a full day of interviews, tours and introduction to the university community. Interview format (in-person or virtual) will be determined at a later date. Only those students selected to attend the interview day will be contacted.
Please note: Recipients will be required to maintain a 90% average in those 40S (Grade 12) level courses which are used in calculating general entrance scholarships.

A. Interview for Selected Applicants
Applicants who have met the eligibility requirements and have provided the appropriate supporting documentation, will be reviewed and ranked. Applicants with a high enough preliminary ranking will be selected for interview. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will not get a decision.
All applicants who were selected for interview and participated in the interview process are ranked by the Selection Committee.
The Selection Committee makes its recommendations based on a holistic review of the applicant’s grades, extra-curricular activities, letters of reference and interview.
B. Notification of Decision
Once a decision has been made, all applicants will receive an email notifying them to log into their application portal to view the decision. Students that are offered admission will be required to confirm their acceptance. If you do not accept the offer by the deadline date indicated in the letter, your offer will lapse. It is imperative that your email account remains current and that you check it regularly or arrange for someone to check it in your absence.
